The colors this season move away from the cool colors of recent seasons to the warm side of the spectrum. You’ll find cranberry, melon, moss green, harvest gold, aubergine and azure. You’ll discover neutrals in coffee, camel, graphite, and cream. Denim is still strong in gray, washed and deep indigo. Gone are the neon colors and most pastels other than rose-gold pink.
Luxurious fabrics in rich solid colors and prints and metallic textiles will abound this fall, reflecting the boho influence of the 1970’s. You’ll find patchwork skirts, pants, and jackets of suede and brocades. Trims will include metallic ribbons, fringe, crystals and leather (top left: Soft Surroundings).
Notice the cropped cream top and brown accessories (above from Free People). Load up on accessories in coffee, toast, saddle, rust, and chocolate.
Here H&M pairs a graphite jumpsuit with neutral shoes. Wear cream shoes with everything through the fall/winter.\
Knee-to-Ankle-Length Tops, Dusters, Vests and Sweaters
This is the best season in decades for longer tops. Pair them with leggings, pants, jeans, and wear them over skirts and dresses. If you invest in only one piece this fall buy an elongated sweater in camel or gray (on the left: Free People, middle and right: Soft Surroundings).
Bottoms this season come in all lengths and widths. It’s a blessing to women our age that most will sit at or just below the waist. The latest: high water cropped pants with ankle boots. Look for loose-legged daytime trousers in satin, silk, and crepe topped with rib-necked sweaters and lace tops. The key to pulling it all together: layers, layers, layers.
As you can see, whatever your preference there’s something for everyone this year. Enjoy shopping!
